Ne'Qwa ornaments are delicate, hand-painted glass, you should only use gentle, dry cleaning methods and careful handling to ensure their longevity.

  • Do not submerge in water: Do not put the ornaments in water, as this could damage the paint both inside and out.

What is the history of Ne'Qwa Art?

The technique of reverse painting on glass, known as ne'qwa in Mandarin, began more than a thousand years ago. During the 17th century, the tradition flourished in China, with artisans primarily decorating snuff bottles. Ne'Qwa Art, a company now owned by Precious Moments, revived this ancient art form and applied it to ornaments and other glass decor. 
How is a Ne'Qwa ornament made?
  • Artisans train for years to master the precise technique of painting in reverse.
  • The process begins with mouth-blown glass, with each piece individually created.
  • Artists use specialized, tiny paintbrushes to meticulously hand-paint the design on the inside of the glass.
  • Because the image is painted in reverse, the artist must apply the color layers in the opposite order of how they will appear when viewed from the outside.
