Care instructions

Ne'Qwa ornaments are delicate, hand-painted glass, you should only use gentle, dry cleaning methods and careful handling to ensure their longevity.

Cleaning:

  • Use a soft, dry cloth: For simple dusting, wipe the ornament gently with a soft microfiber or cotton cloth.
  • Use a soft brush: A feather duster or soft-bristled makeup or artist's brush can clean dust and debris from intricate crevices.
  • Avoid harsh cleaners: Never use chemical cleaners, wet wipes, or glass cleaners on your ornaments. These can damage the hand-painted designs and finishes.
  • Do not submerge in water: Do not put the ornaments in water, as this could damage the paint both inside and out.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the history of Ne'Qwa Art?

The technique of reverse painting on glass, known as ne'qwa in Mandarin, began more than a thousand years ago. During the 17th century, the tradition flourished in China, with artisans primarily decorating snuff bottles. Ne'Qwa Art, a company now owned by Precious Moments, revived this ancient art form and applied it to ornaments and other glass decor.

How is a Ne'Qwa ornament made?
  • Artisans train for years to master the precise technique of painting in reverse.
  • The process begins with mouth-blown glass, with each piece individually created.
  • Artists use specialized, tiny paintbrushes to meticulously hand-paint the design on the inside of the glass.
  • Because the image is painted in reverse, the artist must apply the color layers in the opposite order of how they will appear when viewed from the outside.
How do I know if my Ne'Qwa ornament is authentic?

Every genuine Neqwa Art ornament is authenticated with a certificate of authenticity. Each piece is also etched with an artist's signature and the Neqwa Art logo. The ornament is packaged in a satin-lined, keepsake gift box.

Does Ne'Awa Art make limited edition ornaments?

Yes, Ne'Qwa Art releases limited edition ornaments each year, which are typically larger than standard ornaments. These ornaments are highly collectible and come with a special, heavy keepsake box for protection.

Where can I display my Ne'Qwa ornament?

While they are often hung on Christmas trees, many people display Neqwa ornaments year-round on a stand. Neqwa Art sells specialized metal display stands for this purpose.
